CIMIC Group’s Broad Construction has secured an $84.8 million state government contract to complete an expansion at the Casuarina Prison south of Perth.

Under the contract, Broad will design and build four new accommodation units to provide an additional 512 beds at the prison.

To support the additional accommodation, upgrades will be undertaken to the utility services on site, as well as construction of new ancillary support buildings containing program and education rooms, interview and medical consultation rooms and a video link facility.

The project also includes construction of a new kitchen and expansion of key service delivery buildings including social and official visits, reception and outpatient medical centre.

Details were disclosed at www.tenders.wa.gov.au.

The contract is part of a $120 million pledge by the state government to upgrade beds and infrastructure at Casuarina and Bunbury prisons.

Broad is a subsidiary of CPB Contractors, which is owned by CIMIC.

Broad completed upgrade work at the Wanneroo Civic Centre earlier this year and has undertaken state government contracts previously, including a fit-out project in East Perth in 2016.
