Resources logistics company Bis has formed a partnership with Israel’s largest aerospace and defence company, IAI, to deliver mine site automation services.

The Auto-mate joint venture will be based in Osborne Park, and will use IAI’s technology to operate heavy off-road vehicles.

It will be led by Daniel Poller, who is a former a non-executive director of Perth-based Paramount Mining Corporation.

The Auto-mate technology can be used for various mines in remote and harsh environments, Bis says, and will allow mining companies to automate their assets. It is also tailored to individual mine site requirements.

Bis chief executive Brad Rogers said Auto-mate was a game-changer for the global resources sector.

“It is a gateway to automation for small and big miners,” he said.

“It is uniquely flexible so that a customer can choose how far down the pathway to automation they want to go.

“It can be deployed at any mine, on any asset, and to any degree of automation the customer chooses.”

Mr Rogers said the global value uplift and efficiency gains from automation in the resources sector were estimated to be more than $50 billion.

“Auto-mate makes automation a reality at mines where it would previously never have been thought possible,” he said.

“It can be delivered efficiently and at a lower whole-of-life cost than other technologies in the market.”

The Auto-mate technology would now become accessible by a larger section of the mining industry, Mr Rogers added.

He said the joint venture was a significant step in Bis’s commitment to customer-led innovation.

Bis employs 2,000 people across 40 operations in Australia and Indonesia.
