Private mining contractor Barminco has secured more work with Melbourne-based MMG, announcing a contract renewal worth up to $270 million.

Barminco will continue providing underground mining services at MMG’s Dugald River zinc project in Queensland under the new five-year contract, after having worked at the mine since 2012.

The value of the deal is estimated at between $250 million and $270 million.

Barminco was selected to continue at the mine after the contract was put to the market at the end of its current term under standard corporate governance practices,” the company said in a statement.

Barminco will be performing a full suite of underground mining services at Dugald River, with a near-term focus on development.”

Chief executive Peter Stokes said the contract win strengthened the company’s relationship with MMG.

“We look forward to further developing the Dugald River mine for MMG, which adds to the underground mining services we have been performing at MMG’s Rosebury mine for a decade,” he said.

It adds to a $275 million contract Barminco won earlier this month to provide mining services at Northern Star Resources’ majority-owned Kundana gold mines in the Goldfields.
