BP Australia has confirmed that the company's Kwinana refinery, which is the country's largest and Western Australia's only oil refinery, suffered a partial shutdown on Monday due to some mechanical difficulties experienced over the weekend.
BP spokesman Chandran Vigneswaran said the shutdown will not impact on supplies to the company's Western Australian customers.
"We have already commenced a program that will ensure customers are suitably supplied," he said.
"The partial shutdown will last for a week or so.
"We go through shutdowns on and off on occasion, and this shouldn't impact the business or the community."
Mr Vigneswaran explained that details of the incident and the shutdown were limited as there were no issues related to occupational health and safety, environmental considerations or supplies to customers.
