Business News has been recognised for the quality of its digital products, winning three international business publishing awards at the weekend.

Business News won best daily email, best specialty e-newsletter, and took bronze for best use of multimedia at the Association of Area Business Publishers annual awards on Saturday night in the US city of Des Moines, Iowa.

Long-time associates of Business News, Joe and Raki Zwiebel, were on hand to collect the prizes.

Business News CEO Charlie Gunningham was thrilled with the result and said it showed how Business News’ digital products were leaders in the business publishing niche.

“This is great recognition for the work we’ve put into our online business,” he said.

The Business News 4pm Afternoon Wrap email, which has almost 50,000 subscribers, was noted for its simplicity and use of pictures.

In awarding the gold for best daily email the judges said: “Excellent use of images plus easily scannable headlines and readouts give a full picture of the day’s business news that is extremely comprehensive. The email really sets up someone to get the day started in the Australian business community.”

For best speciality e-newsletter, the judges said of the BN Weekender: “Business News Weekender lets readers review the week’s top business news through a clever interface. Subscribers can listen to a podcast while they wade through a variety of news, analysis and networking tools. Particularly impressive is the customization functionality that gives the reader control over what they see, hear and read.”

The bronze for best use of multimedia – our ‘Cruising Tales’ and ‘40u40 with Dr Angus Turner’  videos – showed Business News’ versatility.

“Nice use of time-lapse and variable-speed video shows a place that most people will never go in the cruise piece. It can also be watched without sound, which is nice for a mobile audience that increasingly doesn’t want to pull out its headphones. The Turner piece was a solid piece of interviewing with strong production values.”

There were 644 entries from 46 publications across US, Canada, and Australia.
