BMD wins second major freeway contract

BMD Constructions has won its second major road contract in the past month after securing a $48.4 million contract to widen a section of the Kwinana Freeway.
Under the contract, BMD will build a third lane for the eight kilometres from Russell Road to Roe Highway on the northbound section of the freeway.
The company will also construct noise walls along the eastern side of the freeway, along with modifications to drainage and service barriers.
“Upon completion, the project will reduce travel times and address congestion for road users in Perth’s southern suburbs,” Main Roads WA said on its website.
“This project forms part of our overall plan to transform Mitchell and Kwinana freeways to support population growth and economic development.”
The state and commonwealth governments have committed $49 million to complete the project.
The news comes after the company beat rivals CPB Contractors and WBHO Infrastructure to win a $49.4 million contract to widen a section of the Mitchell Freeway.
BMD is one of just a handful of contractors that have been short-listed for Main Roads contracts over the past year, with others including CPB, WBHO and Georgiou Group.
