What? ~ Billed as a world first e-commerce platform for builders, users can enter their address on the website, zoom in to the property and drop a scaled new structure (such as an extension or pool or granny flat) onto the site.

This will give the user an idea of fit, and provide some planning checks. Unique mapping technology assesses the planning requirements, and will soon be able to fast track building permit applications.

Where? ~ A demonstration can be viewed at www.buildersecommerce.com.au. The web app is embedded into a builder’s website, or used on premises by their sales staff.

Who? ~ The idea stemmed from an R&D project at a local structural engineering firm, Dorian Engineering Consultants, with assistance from Curtin University, Google and Landgate.

Quotation? ~ “We wanted to help builders; they spend too much time trying to qualify their customers as well as all the administration with getting a building permit, “ Chris Dorian said.

$/News/Market? ~ The company is seeking to raise series-A funding to expand reach and allow for Australia-wide distribution.

The company was recently named one of the 200 most innovative companies at the Westpac Business of Tomorrow awards, and was a finalist in the 2017 Incite WAITTA Startup of the year category.

Current customers include Freedom Pools, Barrier Reef Pools, Cabins WA & ExtraLivingWA. The estimated market size is $420 million in Australia and $US4.2 billion in the US.

Builders E-Commerce was launched on October 1 2016 and is ranked #9 in BNiQ Startups List.
