Our weekly appointments wrap includes John BarringtonTimothy Marney, Fiona Harris, Lee-Ann Kirkham, Chris Blyth, Sabina Shugg, Mark Hewitt and Chris Slater.

John Barrington has been appointed to the board of the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. Mr Barrington is co-founder and executive chairman of applied artificial intelligence healthcare company Artrya, which is helping radiologists and cardiologists improve diagnosis of coronary heart disease. He is chair of Curtin School of Management advisory board and a director of Creative Partnerships Australia and John Curtin Gallery. He recently stepped down from the Perth Festival board, which he chaired from 2015.

Former WA mental health commissioner Timothy Marney has been appointed as a principal at management consultancy Nous Group. Mr Marney was mental health commissioner for five years and prior to this served as under treasurer of the Western Australian Treasury. He chairs the Bankwest Curtin Economics Centre advisory board and is deputy chair of Beyond Blue.

The clinical trials arm of the Harry Perkins Institute Linear Clinical Research has appointed Fiona Harris to its board. Ms Harris is a director of Oil Search Limited, BWP Trust and Perron Group and has more than 20 years’ experience as a non-executive director. She was previously a partner at KPMG.

Lea-Ann Kirkham and Chris Blyth have been appointed co-directors of Wesfarmers Centre of Vaccines and Infectious Diseases. Outgoing director Tom Snelling had been in the role for six years, and said that both Dr Kirkham and Dr Blyth were excellent leaders who would bring together complementary backgrounds and skillsets.

Sabina Shugg has been appointed as the director of Curtin University’s Western Australian School of Mines in Kalgoorlie. Ms Shugg graduated from the school and went on to work in the industry before becoming a mining executive at Kalgoorlie-Boulder Mining Innovation Hub and Resolute Mining. She is founder and chair of Women in Mining and Resources.

Australian Finance Group has undergone a restructure. AFG general manager residential and broker Mark Hewitt will become general manager of industry and partnership development. AFG home loans general manager Chris Slater will assume a broader sales and distribution leadership role across both residential broking and the AFG home loans business. AFG will also appoint a general manager for the AFG Securities business.
