Former advertising executive Al Taylor has been appointed chief executive of hospitality and brewing business Triple-1-Three, which was set up by former Sunset Events directors David Chitty and James Legge.

Triple-1-Three runs Otherside Brewing Co, the Otherside Brewhouse in Myaree, the Tapped by Otherside arts sponsorshup program and food truck business Nomads, and is planning to launch entertainment venue Freo.Social early this year.

Mr Taylor was chairman and group managing director of WA founded advertising agency 303MullenLowe and assisted the company expand into the eastern states to become Australia’s largest independently owned company, before its purchase by InterPublic Group.

Mr Taylor said his plan when he left 303MullenLowe was to find his next adventure where he could apply his skills.

“A place that gets the value of culture, is doing something really interesting and has a big meaningful ambition,” he said.

“There is no question Triple-1-Three is all that and more.

“There is so much scope for Triple-1-Three and I am amped by the idea of building on all that has created thus far and helping to create a company that is significant – not just for what it does, but for the positive contribution it makes to the community and its legacy.”

Triple-1-Three co-founder and director, Mr Chitty, said Mr Taylor’s demonstrated leadership and business and brand development credentials would significantly benefit the business.

“We were particularly drawn to his passion and proven expertise in building culture and organisational capability,” he said.

Mr Taylor will also be joining Mr Chitty and Mr Legge as a director of the company.

During the past 12 months, the Otherside Brewery has doubled its brewing capacity and increased sales by more than 300 per cent to become one of the largest craft breweries in Western Australia.

The new Freo.Social entertainment complex will be located on the historic Artillery Drill Hall site previously occupied by live music venue Fly By Night Musicians Club.

Mr Chitty’s former company, Sunset Events, which was the organiser of Southbound and West Coast Blues n Roots Festival, was chosen in 2014 to redevelop the site.

Planning of the redevelopment began in 2015 and construction began in 2016.

The venue was expected to open on several occasions in 2017 and 2018, but the company has confirmed it will officially open its doors in March 2019 with artists booked for shows in April.

It will offer a microbrewery, 550 person capacity entertainment hall, co-working spaces, artist workshops, food trucks and catering and beer gardens.
