AUMS wins $373m Newmont contract

Ausdrill-Barminco joint venture African Underground Mining Services has won a $US280 million ($A373 million) contract to provide its services to Newmont Mining’s Subika underground gold operation in Ghana.

In a brief statement today, the 50:50 joint venture operation said it had been awarded the Subika underground mining contract with work to begin in the second quarter of the year.

“The contract is a five-year term to supply all underground mining services for the Subika underground mine, including development and production activities, diamond drilling and associated services,” the joint venture said.

“The contract has an estimated value of $US280 million.”

AUMS has previously worked on Subika, with the undertaking of exploration work at the project in 2010.

Subika is an expansion of Newmont’s Ahafo South gold mine, which began producing in 2006.

Ausdrill shares were 0.3 per cent lower to $1.38 each at 10:15am.
