Residential construction giant ABN Group has received the green light to shift its headquarters from Osborne Park to Leederville, after FJM Property’s $35 million proposal to build on the Leederville Hotel car park site was approved by planning authorities today.

The Metropolitan West Joint Development Assessment Panel today granted approval for the 9,000 square metre project, which is being developed by FJM Property on Vincent Street.

ABN Group’s 1,000 employees will occupy the entire building under a 12-year lease, with two five-year extension options.

The homebuilder and construction giant is expected to move into the building by mid-2021.

ABN Group chief executive Dale Alcock said he expected the project to be a catalyst for activation in the centre of Leederville.

He said ABN Group had commissioned international artist Tom Muller to customise the building’s facade.

Previous commercial projects by Mr Muller include Afterlight - the LED lighting system at Perth Council House, and Ghost Line at Sydney Carriageworks.

“At ABN Group we pride ourselves on our high-energy culture and commitment to going above and beyond in everything we do,” Mr Alcock said.

“I look forward to working with the Leederville Hotel Syndicate on this purpose-built development that has the potential to become an iconic part of the Leederville community.”

FJM Property director Adrian Fini described the partnership with ABN as exciting, and one that would add to the vibrancy of Leederville.

City of Vincent Mayor Emma Cole said she was also excited to welcome ABN Group to Leederville.

“Bringing hundreds of staff into this vibrant town centre will have major benefits for our local businesses, and no doubt will be a boost for Leederville’s diverse mix of cafes, restaurants, bars and independent retailers,” she said.

“Daily foot traffic is what is needed to keep our high streets alive and thriving.

“We’re also impressed by the high quality of the development and the activation of the laneway opposite The Garden.

“The City of Vincent has begun the process of developing new planning guidelines for Leederville, our largest town centre, to attract quality residential and mixed-use development.”

ABN Group’s commercial construction arm, PACT Construction will carry out building works on the $35 million project, which has been designed by HASSELL.
