$92m in contracts for rural health service redevelopments

The state government has awarded $91.6 million worth of contracts to four building companies for the refurbishment and redevelopment of six health service centres across rural Western Australia.

Pindan received a substantial portion of the work, picking up three of the six contracts worth a combined $50.9 million for redevelopment work at the Northam Health Service, the Merredin Health Service and refurbishment work at the Dalwallinu Health Centre.

The largest of those was a $31.7 million contract for the Northam Health Service, with the scope of work including expanding the emergency department to provide more treatments spaces, a new entrance and ambulance bay, a second operating theatre, expanded chemotherapy facilities, consultation rooms, a wound clinic, and indoor and outdoor rehabilitation treatment areas.

Cockram Construction received the largest single contract – $35.5 million for the redevelopment of the Narrogin Health Service.

The refurbishment will include a new outpatients centre, a new dental clinic, an expanded pathology building, new sub-acute and rehabilitation unites, and added cancer services.

Construction is expected to start before the end of the year.

FIRM Construction received a $3.1 million contract for refurbishment works at the Jurien Bay Health Centre, while Adco Constructions won a $2.1 million contract for refurbishment of the Wongan Hills Health Service.
