Growing from humble beginnings from developing WA’s first Internet Service Providers (ISP) to successfully acquiring WA-based internet company Westnet to becoming one of the largest ISP’s now in the country, Michael Malone has gone from strength to strength with no plans to stop yet.

As co-founder and CEO of iiNet, Michael Malone has a bit of a thing for the Internet. Back in 1993, fresh from uni, Michael founded WA’s first Internet Service Provider (ISP) in the garage of his family home. That homestead operation has now become a serious business, with a reputation for taking on the big telcos. iiNet has grown to become Australia’s third largest ISP, with more than 1300 staff and revenues of over $400M. Along the way, both iiNet and Michael have picked up many awards and helped to established several of the Internet industry bodies such as auDA, EFA and WAIA. While no longer in the garage, Michael still believes in the same basic belief that has driven iiNet for sixteen years: that good service is good business.

In 2009 Michael won the Australian Telecom Awards and CSIA’s National Customer Service’s CEO of the year.
