WESLEY College recently launched WA’s first interschool student tabloid publication, xiBit, involving 10 other independent Perth schools.
The media hounds are headed by the managing committee, including editor Jason Van der Schyff, James Sippe, Joel Adams, Nick Kay and Dwayne Benson and John Rainbird. Jason said their current aim was to increase their present readership of 1,000 to 11,000.
“It’s very exciting and with new production designs and ideas, we hope to capture a market of 12 to 17 year olds currently in private school education,” he said.
Thirty-seven reporters had been appointed at schools including Aquinas, Christ Church Grammar, Hale School, Trinity College, Perth College, and St Mary’s and St Hilda’s Anglican Girls’ Schools, to submit articles using the Internet.
Topics covered have included youth suicide, Viagra, uniforms, the republic debate and the merits of public versus private education.
