Tenix and a joint venture partnership between Theiss and Black & Veatch have been shortlisted for the South Hedland and Karratha wastewater works contract.
Water Minister Bill Marmion said the two proponents would now work closely with the Water Corporation in a development stage.
“The works package covers the upgrade of the existing South Hedland and Karratha wastewater treatment plants which are scheduled to be completed by mid-2014,” Mr Marmion said.
The successful proponent will be selected in mid-year to form the Pilbara Wastewater Alliance.
Full details of the wastewater works contract, including the estimated cost, will be revealed alongside the final proponent.
Minister Marmion said the alliance will be contracted to carry out the upgrade of the existing South Hedland and Karratha wastewater treatment plants which are scheduled to be completed by mid-2014.
The upgrade of the South Hedland site will enable the decommissioning of the Port Hedland Wastewater Treatment plant, with the view to relocate operations to the redeveloped South Hedland site long-term.
The relocation cost is estimated at $106 million and would be funded through the Water Corporations’ capital works program.
