Ripper to retire at next state election

Mark McGowan is set to become the leader of the Western Australian Labor Party as of Monday, after Eric Ripper fronted a press conference today to announce his formal resignation and foreshadow his retirement at next year's election.

Mr Ripper was in good spirits, referring to himself as 'back bencher Ripper' and declaring his native title work under former Labor leader Geoff Gallop as his most rewarding work in politics.
