The State Government has taken a significant step to improve the long-term management of health and environmental issues relating to the Port of Esperance with the appointment of a new Esperance Port Authority chief executive officer as well as a Director of Environment.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said today that Mr Dennis Parsons would take over from interim CEO Mr Chris Drinkwater on October 30.
"Mr Parsons will be responsible for completing the program of engineering and environmental improvements that will ensure the long-term future of the port, to the benefit of the Esperance community," Ms MacTiernan said.
"Mr Parsons is returning to Western Australia after having served as general manager Marine Operations at Port Kembla in New South Wales."
Mr Parsons was previously marine business unit manager at the Geraldton Port Authority from 1999 until 2004.
The Minister said that interim CEO Chris Drinkwater would continue working with the port until the end of November, to ensure a smooth transition.
"The Esperance Port Authority, at my request, has also recruited and appointed Ms Gaylene Taylor as Director of Environment," she said.
"Ms Taylor, who is an Esperance resident, is widely experienced in environmental management operations and will be responsible for improving the port's environmental operations and monitoring."
The port has also employed Mr Bart Downe as an additional environmental officer, ensuring that the port has three staff who are entirely devoted to environmental management.
