Banking figurehead Tony Howarth AO has been appointed independent non-executive director at HOME Building Society Ltd.
Mr Howarth brings over 35 years experience in the banking and finance industry, including both the retail and wholesale sectors.
He has held both chief executive officer and managing director positions at Challenge Bank Ltd. After Challenge Bank merged with the Westpac Banking Corporation, he was appointed chief executive officer of the WA operations of the merged bank, a position held until November 2002.
Mr Howarth is currently chairman of Alinta Ltd. He is a member of the boards of Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, St John of God Health Care and Rio Tinto WA Future Fund.
He is also a member of a number of community organisations including the Australia Council of Performing Arts Board and the Prime Minister’s Community Business partnership.
In January 2003, Mr Howarth was appointed interim chief executive officer of Hartleys Ltd.
Additionally, Mr Howarth was awarded an Officer of Australia in June 2002 and an honorary "Doctorate in Laws" by the University of WA earlier this year.
