AS part of a drive to serve national clients, property specialist Raj Lawyers has opened an office in Perth.
Eight local staff will be in the office by January, and former Hotchkin Hanly partner, Michael Reedy, will head the Perth office.
Managing partner Niren Raj said his firm was recruiting people form the local legal and property sector.
“A number of our clients are based in Perth, or have assets in Perth, and we consider it a very important market, which will allow for a national integration of our services,” Mr Raj told WA Business News.
“We will expand the Perth office, but we don’t want any of our offices to be more than 30 people.”
Raj Lawyers has offices in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, and Mr Raj started the firm in 1995.
“I didn’t like the large law firms and I didn’t think they could provide niche service,” he said.
“We service clients in five main areas – property is about 40 per cent of our practice.
“We also work in insolvency, trade practices, employee relations and commercial litigation.
“The legal market is based on relationships, and our firm has been successful because of the relationships we have built.
“The most important ethic is to not promise something you can’t deliver.
“A lot of people promise services but don’t deliver.”
Mr Raj added that clients of Raj Lawyers could access their entire files on the Internet, including all third-party documents.
“The majority of our clients are coming from big firms and we believe it is because we are taking a different approach to service and accountability,” Mr Raj said.
