Education services company Navitas has welcomed proposed changes to the student visa system, which will make it easier for international students to gain access to the Australian market.
“The government has consulted with the industry and now presents a series of measures which will signal to the world that Australia values international students and wants to welcome them back,” Navitas chief executive Rod Jones said.
The key change, announced today by the federal government, is a streamlining of visa processing for higher education students, including packaged courses offered by Navitas.
The Perth-based company said the changes should considerably reduce the time and effort required for students to be granted higher education visas.
The government has also announced new post-study work visa regime for international university graduates, which withdraws the skills assessment and the requirement to work in any particular occupation.
English language students will be able to apply for a visa without first meeting minimum English language requirements.
Provider based risk assessment in visa processing will also be gradually introduced.
