Perth-based building and construction company JAXON has added a pair of affordable housing projects to its portfolio of works, comprising an $18.6 million apartment project for the Department of Housing and a $22 million complex for Foundation Housing.
Housing Minister Bill Marmion announced yesterday that JAXON had been appointed to build Parkside at Queens Park, an 86-apartment development in the south-eastern suburbs.
The project is part of the state government’s affordable sales program and will comprise a range of one, two and three-bedroom dwellings.
“Parkside will deliver housing choices at prices affordable to households on moderate incomes, including new home buyers and locals looking to downsize,” Mr Marmion said.
The project is expected to be complete by November next year.
Meanwhile, JAXON has also signed a deal with Foundation Housing to build its $22 million Bennett Lodge in East Perth.
Business News reported earlier this month that Foundation had lodged a development application with the City of Perth for the project, which will include office space and communal facilities as well as 70 units, including 52 lodging rooms and 18 apartments.
According to the development application, the total construction cost of the project is $22 million, while JAXON said its contract was worth about $20 million.
The rooms will be made available for low-income earners, while the 18 apartments will be offered to CBD service workers.
The 11-storey building has been designed by JCY Architects and Urban Designers.
JAXON group general manager Mark Kepplinger said winning the tender was an indication of the growth the company had achieved in recent years.
“JAXON previously completed some two-level housing projects for Foundation Housing in Bayswater, Bassendean and Ascot Waters, and to now be constructing an 11-storey inner-city project for the same client shows the development we have made as a business,” he said.
Mr Kepplinger said early works, including piling design, precast shop drawings and local government liaison had begun.
JAXON expects to have crews on site before the end of the year, while the project is scheduled to be complete by early 2016.
The new lodge will be built at 67-69 Bennett Street, a site at which Foundation Housing previously operated a single-storey lodging house.
That building was demolished in January to allow for the new development.
