FOUR years of perseverance at the annual Family Business Australia awards has paid off for Malaga-based commercial plumbing products manufacturer and importer, Galvin Engineering.
The company, co-owned and operated by brothers Chris and Paul, won the third generation category at the FBA awards in Queensland over the weekend as part of the 12th FBA national conference.
In was also announced that the 2011 national conference will be held in Perth next September, which will bring more than 350 FBA members to the state.
Chris Galvin said he and his brother were thrilled to finally take out the prestigious award and thanked FBA for providing education and support throughout their family business journey.
“It has been a long time coming after competing for the national title for four years previous,” he said.
After attending the last eight conferences the Galvin’s are well known among fellow FBA members and were very popular winners on the night.
FBA (WA) executive officer, Lorraine Willis attended the awards and said the judges congratulated Galvin Engineering for exemplifying the merging of family and business in a positive environment, demonstrating innovative methods for including and engaging staff in strategies for the success of the business.
“The Galvin’s have worked hard to professionalise their ownership, business and family structures and this win signifies acknowledgement of their success by the family business community,” she said.
The FBA awards recognise family businesses that demonstrate an awareness and understanding of the specific issues and challenges of working with family.
A South Australian family business won the first generation award while a New South Wales company and a Victorian firm took out the second and fourth generation awards respectively.
