Lands Minister Brendon Grylls has launched a nation-wide expressions of interest program, seeking a development partner to deliver a bulky goods complex in Karratha.
Mr Grylls said the centre would be the first of its type in Karratha, as the government continues its development push to transform the town into a city with a permanent population of 50,000.
The 13.45 hectare site is located at the corner of Dampier Highway and Madigan Road.
“We are looking for a suitable partner, or consortia, with the capacity to join LandCorp and develop a major bulky goods complex which will be an enormous boost for the Pilbara,” Mr Grylls said in a statement.
“This new project will help attract new investment in the Pilbara and assist in meeting local demand in Karratha for businesses such as major white goods, hardware and electronics retail facilities as the town's population grows.
“It will also provide opportunities for existing businesses to relocate to this strategic location with great exposure.”
The successful proponent would work with LandCorp for three months to determine project feasibility and development plans, Mr Grylls said.
The expressions of interest process closes December 1.
