The state’s new peak body for renewable energy and energy efficiency, which emerged after the collapse of the Sustainable Energy Association of Australia last year, is set to establish its leadership team and policy direction.
Last November, WA’s SEA was suddenly wound up after suffering from falling membership and revenue, which it attributed to federal government policy and economic factors.
At the time, chief executive Dermot Costello said the introduction of a WA chapter of the Clean Energy Council would “rise from the proverbial ashes of the SEA”.
The CEC WA branch is planning to hold its first event on February 24 to establish its WA directorate, which Mr Costello will chair in his new position as WA manager.
Mr Costello said the event would include a discussion with stakeholders to gauge where the CEC should focus its attentions to improve WA’s clean energy sector.
Mr Costello said initial conversations with former SEA members including Western Power, Synergy, Alinta Energy, Perth Energy, Carnegie Wave Energy, and Infinite Energy, had been overwhelmingly positive.
“CEC WA really will raise the profile of renewable energy in WA,” he said.
“We are in a position to support and facilitate a lot of the development on both large and small scale.”
