Henderson-based engineering and construction firm Civmec has won a $73 million steelwork contract for the new Perth Stadium.
Henderson-based engineering and construction firm Civmec has won a $73 million steelwork contract for the new Perth Stadium.
The scope of work involves Civmec supplying and installing more than 14,000 tonnes of steel, which will be used to structure the five-level stadium, and roof trusses to support lightweight fabric covering 85 per cent of the seats.
Commerce Minister Michael Mischin said the supply and installation of steel was one of the largest contracts for the three-year construction phase of the new stadium.
He said about 120 people would be working on the contract.
It follows news last month that Global Construction Services had won a $30 million contract for formwork and concrete at the stadium.
“More than 100 tenders will be awarded during the stadium’s construction phase and 5,700 workers will help build this world-class sporting facility,” Mr Mischin said.
“This will not only change the way we watch sport, it is also generating huge economic and employment benefits for the WA economy.”
Civmec chief executive Patrick Tallon said the stadium contract was the latest in a series of projects where Civmec was taking a major role in the development of new infrastructure for Perth.
"Late last year we were awarded a major civil package as well as the fabrication of the arches for the large pedestrian access bridge for the Elizabeth Quay project which is transforming Perth’s waterfront," he said.
"We also successfully tendered for the delivery of precast works for the Perth airport to city roads infrastructure package, known as the Gateway Project.”
Brookfield Multiplex, which is part of the Westadium consortium appointed last year to design, build, partially finance and maintain the new stadium, is responsible for sourcing and securing the procurement packages for the construction phase.
Construction of the 42-metre high, five-level stadium began in December and is expected to be open in time for the start of the 2018 AFL season.
Civmec will begin work this month.
