Brookfield Office Properties says it is progressing plans to build a new tower adjacent to City Square after it announced Barrick Gold would take up the remaining 5,000 square meters in the office tower currently under construction in the CBD.
Barrick will join anchor tenant BHP Billiton and accounting firm PwC in the City Square Tower.
PwC announced in March it had signed a 10-year agreement to take up 8,500 square metres at City Square, vacating 5,000sqm at QV1.
Brookfield said design discussions were in a "preliminary phase" for the addition of 27,870 square meters of commercial space with the construction of City Square South.
"In response to demand for premium-grade office space in Perth, we are committed to growing the City Square precinct with the addition of the proposed City Square South tower," Brookfield Office Properties Australian Commercial Operations chief operating officer Kurt Wilkinson said.
The site was originally owned by fallen tycoon Ric Stowe, who had plans in place to build a 14-storey office tower.
Brookfield purchased the site in October for $25.3 million.
Also, Brookfield said the retail leasing program for City Square's 7,126sqm of retail space is well under way.
It said the heritage retail precinct would contain high end boutique retailers, bars, restaurants and cafes.
