A Western Australian Government plan to protect more than 51,000 hectares of previously identified bushland across the metropolitan area has been released for public comment. Called Bush Forever, the plan gives protection to 51,200 hectares of bushland through an amendment to the Metropolitan Region Scheme and draft Statement of Planning Policy.
The majority of the land to be affected by Bush Forever is Government owned. About 400 hectares of high value private rural land is proposed for reservation and acquisition and a further 3,000 hectares is earmarked for private conservation management.
