Ian Burston has been appointed as non-executive director of gold explorer Carrick Gold.
The announcement is below:
WA gold explorer Carrick Gold Limited (ASX: CRK) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Ian Burston AM as non-executive director, adding significant resource and gold industry experience to the Board.
Mr Burston has more than 30 years of top-level experience in Western Australian and international mining. He has held senior management and Board positions with some of WA's largest and most successful mining organisations.
He has had first hand experience managing gold projects in the Kalgoorlie region, including as CEO of Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Limited as operator of the "Superpit".
Carrick Chairman Frank Carr said the appointment was another significant step forward for Carrick as it sought to progress its Kalgoorlie gold project toward production.
"As part our growth toward production, Carrick has begun to augment its Board and management team. We are very pleased to be able to attract someone of the calibre of Mr Burston, and we regard this as a validation of the quality of the Carrick assets and our development strategy," he said.
"For Carrick and its shareholders, Mr Burston's appointment will add a first class level of mining expertise and experience as we transition from explorer to producer," Mr Carr said.
Carrick has developed a gold resource of more than 4.1 million ounces, located within 90km of Kalgoorlie. In September, the Company commenced a Pre-Feasibility Study for an open-pit mining operation at Carrick's Lindsay's, Brilliant, and Kalpini gold projects. Its aim is to become an Australian mid-tier gold producer of between 100,000 to 200,000 ounces per annum.
Mr Burston said Carrick presented an exciting and timely development opportunity.
"Carrick has quietly established an enviable gold resource position in a prime location. Now is a good time to be developing a gold project, and I look forward to be part of the next phase of growth to take this into production," Mr Burston said.
Mr. Burston's career includes former positions as CEO of Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines, Chairman of Cape Lambert Iron Ore, Chairman of Aztec Resources Limited, Managing Director of Portman Limited, Managing Director of Aurora Gold Limited, Vice President - WA Business Development of CRA Limited and Managing Director of Hamersley Iron Pty Limited.
Mr. Burston holds a bachelor of engineering degree from Melbourne University and a diploma in aeronautical engineering from RMIT. He was awarded membership of the Order of Australia in 1993 and received an honorary doctorate of science from Curtin University in 1995. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Australia; the Institute of Mining & Metallurgy; and of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
He is currently non-executive Chairman of Broome Port Authority and of mining services group NRW Holdings Limited, a non-executive Director of Fortescue Metals Group, Kansai Mining, and of Mincor Resources NL.
