Brierty, Densford win Perth Airport contracts

Perth Airport has awarded contracts to Perth-based companies Brierty and Densford Civil to improve access and parking around Terminal 1, as part of a $42 million redevelopment project to upgrade the forecourt and car parks.

Brierty was awarded an $11 million construction contract for the realignment of Horrie Miller Drive in front of T1, as well as upgrades to the existing short term car park.

“The realigned road will enable expansion of the T1 forecourt to create a 27 metre landscaped plaza across the front of the terminal at a later date,” Perth Airport said in a statement.

Brierty is already on site at the airport working on the construction of Airport Drive.

Densford was awarded a contract to expand the T1 short term car park, which includes the construction of a new entry and exit point, to improve traffic flow and circulation within the car park.

The car park expansion will provide 1,826 car bays and 52 dedicated motorcycle bays, including a mix of disabled access bays, ‘parents with prams’, hourly and short term overnight bays, along with dedicated small charter vehicle and car rental areas.

Perth Airport chief executive Brad Geatches said the new forecourt plaza would incorporate covered waiting areas near the pick-up/drop-off lanes and bus area that would provide weather protection, as well as providing a relaxed, landscaped and smoke-free environment for passengers and other visitors to the airport.

“With the expansion of our terminals and projected growth in passenger numbers, our infrastructure must be built to meet customer expectations, now and in the future,” Mr Geatches said.

“With the significant investments we are making in our terminals, we also need to bring the outside up to the same standard.

The first phase of the T1 forecourt road and car park redevelopment is scheduled for completion in mid-2015.
