David Doepel, chair and managing director of Demand Film, has over 30 years of experience on innovation in industry, academia and government. He made his first documentary film in 1989 and built a film production and technology company in the US which he ran for 12 years. In the almost two decades since he has served as a trade commissioner for Western Australia in the Americas, he also served as a science policy advisor and speechwriter to a Premier in Western Australia and held a variety of academic positions including deputy vice-chancellor of research at Murdoch University. He continues to advise the University on various strategic research initiatives, including the support of evidence-based policy for inclusive economic growth in Africa and a new initiative on "Blockchain for Africa".
