Commencing business in WA in 1986 as RMG financial services, Patrick Canion and John Donald started as a self-employed insurance agents with National Mutual. The business expanded its focus from insurance and personal superannuation to being a fee-based retirement planning business.

In 1998, they adopted the name of rmg financial services. rmg represents ‘Risk Management Group’.
In August 2003 they entered into an equity partnership with ipac securities.

In 2009 rmg financial services acquired three businesses: Monitor Money, John Coombes & Co and Financial Services Direct. In addition to the revenue and funds growth these provided, some excellent experienced financial planners and administrators – including a new partner Julian Summers – joined the team.
The team acquired a further four businesses in 2011: Miller Financial Consultants, Jeff Glance Financial Planning, Piersbridge Consultants and Precise Financial Services.
And in 2013, it rebranded as ipac western australia.
Pajoda Investments Pty Ltd trading as ipac western australia is 55 per cent owned by ipac securities limited (ipac). ipac is a wholly owned subsidiary of the AMP Group.
